Must Read: Book Club

“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book”.

Must Read – Number 1

Mostly because I’m a book lover, but also because it’s complementary to the goals program, I’ll be sharing books which I strongly suggest you read, regardless of whether you are taking the program or just playing from home. Books can be inspiring and interesting of course (that’s why I started studying Neuroscience), but they can also be great reference points if you read like a pro.

Here’s a few things I’ve started doing to improve my recall skills on topics I want to understand better/become an expert in:

  • Read it once for fun, read it again to make notes.
  • Use coloured sticky tabs to highlight areas you love or want to remember (they don’t damage the book like highlighters)
  • Sort books into subject areas – keep the fiction in one section, and non-fiction in another

However, if you’re just up for a good read and you’re not trying to become fluent in C.S Lewis, then here’s my MUST READ for this month.

Creative Confidence – by Tom Kelley & David Kelley

I’m putting this one as my very first book suggestion because it’s actually the book that inspired me to start ‘Goals with B’ in the first place. I had been daydreaming, planning, delaying… about starting the business of helping people but I didn’t know how to take that leap of faith and go for it.

This book is about discovering the creative magic within us all. They literally shatter the concept of ‘Oh I’m not very creative, I can’t draw or anything!’ With phenomenal stories and years of substance to back up their ambitious claims, they really do make you want to jump out of bed and do something creative with your life (or business, or school, or day).

By approaching challenges with a creative mindset, we allow more ideas at a faster pace, and we encourage action because we know we can tweak and perfect a concept later on.

For any of my goal getters, this book will not only inspire you to think outside every square you’ve ever known, but it will give you some serious insight into why I launched a business idea when the entire program was still just a Google Doc.

Send me your thoughts if you have read, or do read this book!
