Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

Must Read Number 2

The Emotional Life of Your Brain – by Dr Richard Davidson

During my previous life, the messy life, the one in which I was going absolutely nowhere… I somehow ended up with this incredible piece of non-fiction in my hands. And it irreversibly changed my life forever.

Dr Richard Davidson, a respected Professor in Psychology and Psychiatry, and Founder of the Center for Healthy Minds, encountered some initial set backs in his career when he proclaimed that meditation could have positive consequences on our brains.

We hear how he journeys all the way to Tibet, in his quest for measuring compassion, and how he stood by his hypotheses during the skeptical 80’s. What is now known as quite accepted and often practiced; meditation as a healing/treatment tool, could partly be attributed to his dedication to the scientific cause.

But aside from being interesting, Dr Davidson also explains very clearly (no medical proficiency required) how we each have varying emotional attributes and how we can use these to our advantage throughout life. He also covers interesting perspectives on how to ‘alter’ your current emotional scores, on the premise of creating new neural pathways.

Recommend if you’re the type of person who likes to do your own research, and are open to hearing theories.

Send me your thoughts if you get a chance to read it!
